

(Nashville, Tenn.) December 3, 2009 -- Essential Records rock band Red garnered a GRAMMY nod for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. Nominations were announced last night as part of “The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night.” The one-hour special was broadcast live on CBS from Club Nokia at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
Nashville-based Red -- made up of Michael Barnes (vocals), Anthony Armstrong (guitar) Randy Armstrong (bass), and Joe Rickard (drums) -- received its second career nomination in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category for its sophomore Innocence & Instinct which released Feb 10, 2009. Its first nomination was for the June 6, 2006 release End of Silence in the same category.
Innocence & Instinct, released with more than 40,000 in first week sales and climbed its way to the Top 5 on iTunes Top Albums chart. To date the band has earned eight consecutive No. 1 radio singles, the last three of which are off of Innocence & Instinct. The band simultaneously released a Deluxe Edition of Innocence & Instinct that includes four bonus tracks and a DVD featuring the “Death of Me” music video, a “making of” documentary and more. Red has maintained a near-constant presence on the road (an impressive 1,000+ live shows since releasing End Of Silence) touring alongside notable rock names such as Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, 3 Doors Down, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Saving Abel, Sevendust, Staind, Kutless, Trapt, Third Day, Switchfoot and others, and rave reviews for the band’s live shows have poured in via both print and online outlets alike.
GRAMMY ballots for the final round of voting will be mailed on Dec. 16 to the voting members of The Recording Academy. They are due back to the accounting firm of Deloitte by Jan. 8, 2010, when they will be tabulated and the results kept secret until the telecast.
The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on “GRAMMY Sunday,” Jan. 31, 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
